Fairest Flower of South

July 12 – 21 – Playhouse 2000 and Dietert Center proudly present this hilarious summer melodrama, presented at the Dietert Center July 12, 13, and 14 and at the VK Garage Theater on July 18, 19, and 20.

The war is over, but the disoriented Col.  Culpepper fights on for the Confederacy.  The colonel’s daughter, Aura Lee, must come up with the cash to replant the cotton crop.  She turns Magnolia Plantation into an inn.  The first guests are Beauregard Mason-Dixon and his snobbish mother.  Aura Lee and Beauregard fall in love under the approving eye of his mama, who believes Aura Lee to be wealthy.  Enter the villain, Horton Smedley, who has been tossed off a riverboat.  When Mrs. Mason-Dixon learns the truth about the Culpeppers’ financial situation and Beauregard discovers that Smedley has been “trifling” with his mother’s affections, his own evil ends.  A surprise ending straightens everything out, proving that virtue and love triumph over villainy!
