History and Overview

In 2002, much of Playhouse 2000’s education work took a temporary backseat to the task of renovating and opening the wonderful Kathleen C. Cailloux City Center for the Performing Arts.  Once the Cailloux was up and running it was time to reinvest in the theatre communities of young people again.  In 2007, the sheer number of talented performers between the ages of 12 and 18 became too big to ignore.  So that November, auditions were held for the Playhouse Academy, an exclusive and intense after school program for children with a deep focus on becoming theatre professionals in the future.

Academy students are held to a high standard of professionalism and accountably.  Classes are held twice monthly and students work on all aspects of all Playhouse 2000 shows.  With guest educators brought in from the world of professional theater and special productions and projects designed just for the students, Academy membership is an unparalleled opportunity for local students with the drive and dedication to pursue a life in the performing arts.
